Cebu’s premier football tournament Aboitiz Football Cup will officially open on September 16 at the Cebu City Sports Center, with local football fans to expect an exciting and more action-packed games this 19th season.
A total of 130 teams composed of 3,000 players registered as of August 28, with more expected to join, will be seeing action in this year’s edition of the country’s longest running football league.
In a media briefing held at The Outlets at Pueblo Verde on August 30, AboitizLand Projects in Planning Manager Eduardo Aboitiz said the Aboitiz Group, through the AboitizLand and Aboitiz Foundation, recognizes the importance of sports in the holistic development of our youth hence the advocacy for sports development.
“We envision to bring the Aboitiz Football Cup to the national football scene and make it the country’s premier football league. We will continue to provide education through sports, hone local talents, and provide a venue for local players to compete and exhibit their skills,” Aboitiz said.
In the same event, AboitizLand and Cebu Football Association signed a memorandum of agreement to seal their partnership in staging the 19th Aboitiz Football Cup.
Games for the tournament’s 18 different categories will start on September 17 and will be held every Saturday and Sunday in four different venues – Cebu City Sports Center, Ateneo de Cebu, Paref Springdale, and Don Bosco Technology Center.
