The Aboitiz Foundation, in partnership with Aboitiz business unit Pilmico, AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc., and Davao Light and Power Company, seeks to give members of partner cooperatives sustainable means of livelihood by giving them a head start towards entrepreneurial opportunities and expanding their skills for better employability.
The ADAP (Association of Differently Abled Persons) Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Davao Ecoland Small Entrepreneurs Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DESEMULCO), and Sunshine Farmers Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative received bakery kits donated by Pilmico. Twenty-five (25) selected members of the cooperatives received NC Training on Baking and Pastry Production at the Philippine Baking Institute in Davao City, successfully passed the National Certification, and are now certified bakers. With this support, the coops will be able to operate a bakeshop, leading to additional income for both the coop and its members.
Members of the cooperatives also successfully made their first dish-washing soaps and fabric conditioner during a training-workshop that was made possible through a partnership with the Department of Science and Technology of Region XI.
The three cooperatives have always been manifesting good performance and consistently upholding the spirit of cooperativism. This collaboration with the Aboitiz Foundation and three Aboitiz business units recognizes individuals who are unable to reach their full potential due to lack of access to skills development and training.
“Pagsikapan din natin na mapaunlad ang ating sarili ng sa gayun ay makatulong din tayo sa iba at ipakita natin na kaya natin magtagumapay sa kabila ng ating mga kapansanan. (Let’s strive to empower ourselves so we can also empower others and prove we can overcome all difficulties despite physical challenges.)”
-Geradine Gonzaga, Chairperson, ADAP Multi-Purpose Cooperative
“Papanatilihin namin ang pagiging responsable sa inyong mga donasyon para maging matagumpay ang negosyo namin sa bread and pastry. (We will continue to be responsible for these donations so we can succeed in our own bread and pastry businesses.)”
-Menrado Intong Jr., Chairperson, Sunshine Farmers and Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative
“Unti-unti kaming natuto sa pamamagitan ng mga libreng trainings, mga computers at mga gamit pangluto na binibigay nila, malaki po ang pasasalamat namin sa inyo. (Slowly, we are learning through the free trainings, computers, and cooking utensils–we are very grateful for these.)”
-Aida Magatao, Chairperson, DESEMULCO
In 2016, the Aboitiz Foundation donated 16 cooperative training centers and released P22.5 million worth of loans through Center for Agriculture and Rural Development, Inc. (CARD)., benefiting 2,597 families. As part of its Enterprise Development for a BetterWorld program, the Aboitiz Foundation believes that key to an empowered community is equipping its members with the capability to help themselves through sustainable livelihood and the availability of employment opportunities.
