We only have one home, and we in Aboitiz are joining the rest of the world in celebrating our role as stewards of the planet. In the week of March 19, leading up to Earth Hour’s March 24 switch off, Aboitiz Equity Ventures and AboitizLand took the lead in making the week-long Earth fest worthwhile.
An hour of R2R with ‘green experts’
A day before the lights out activity, an insight-loaded talk was held in the Aboitiz corporate center in Taguig. Dubbed “An Hour of R2R,” sustainability experts attended the event to give team members an engaging 101 on resource efficiency and proper waste management. The panel comprised Elena Pernia, University of the Philippines (UP) College of Mass Communication Dean; Laura David, UP Marine Science Institute Associate Dean for Research; Abby Bonita, UnionBank Sustainability Officer, and environmentalist celebrity Antoinette Taus.
The talk, which borrowed its name from the Aboitiz Group’s Race to Reduce (R2R) resource efficiency campaign, went live on the organization intranet and was viewed by Aboitiz team members all over the country.

AboitizLand’s week-long fête for the planet
AboitizLand went big and bright for its Earth Hour festival, held in the company’s various residential, commercial and industrial developments across the country. On top of various team member-oriented challenges (Elect-reduce, Race 2 Reduce video contest, Earth Hour vlogging contest), AboitizLand also organized a recycling costume contest, a production contest, and a solid waste management contest for its communities. Staples like the Kiddie Earth Heroes also entertained the little ones while imparting unto them the importance of protecting our planet.

Walk the talk with Race to Reduce
Matching the week’s events, Aboitiz also set up recycling boxes for its waste management drive in our corporate centers in Manila and Cebu.
- Discount coupons await team members who donated their unused old clothes in our partnership with H&M’s fashion-conscious campaign and clothes drive.
- Globe’s e-waste bins were also placed in strategic areas to encourage team members to recycle their old gadgets instead of throwing hazardous components away.
- A plastic bottle drive was also included to help kickstart the Aboitiz Foundation’s Brigada Eskwela this coming May. The plastic bottles are going to be recycled as Sub-irrigated planters for Aboitiz’s school garden activity.
Let’s go BEYOND THE HOUR
At Aboitiz, Responsibility is an important core value. We understand that our everyday habits affect our planet, and thus take steps to lessen our impact on our environment. Earth Hour 2018 is just the start of our Race to Reduce. Living sustainably and going beyond the hour is our way of living up to our promise of advancing business and communities.
