Counting in children in its commitment to nurture the environment, AboitizLand conducted an information and education campaign called the Kiddie Earth Heroes Caravan, in celebration of Earth Hour 2017.
A total of 300 kids from AboitizLand communities Ajoya and Kishanta, Mabolo Elementary School in Cebu City, and Basak Elementary School, Marigondon Elementary School and Suba Masulog Elementary School in Lapu-Lapu City, participated in the campaign led by AboitizLand employees and MEZ II locator volunteers.
The activity featured lectures and discussions on the causes and effects of climate change and ways on how to save the planet Earth. At the end of the session, kids wrote their personal pledge on how they can contribute to reducing the impact of climate change.
Around 1,000 kids and adults from Kishanta, Ajoya, The Persimmon Plus, The Outlets at Pueblo Verde, and Mactan Economic Zone II celebrated the global Earth Hour event with a fire dance, drum beating and acoustic band performances. Kishanta and Ajoya vecinos gathered for a community boodle fight while kiddie vecinos rendered environment-themed dance numbers.
Meanwhile in MEZ II and The Outlets at Pueblo Verde, locators and schools took the spotlight with their vibrant recycled costumes from factory scrap and household trash. They also joined a host of competitions such as the Earth Hour production contest, recycled bag making contest, and solid waste management sustainability contest during the lights-off event.
AboitizLand annually observes Earth Hour, engaging its residential, commercial and industrial partners in its commitment towards environmental sustainability.
