Senior high school students in Cebu and Davao can now enjoy their fully-equipped electrical laboratory (e.Lab) facilities following the donation of AboitizPower’s distribution companies.
Davao Light and Power Company, Inc. (DLPC) turned over refurbished e.Labs to La Paz National High School and Panabo City Senior High School in Davao del Norte last August 7, while the Visayan Electric Company, Inc. (VECO) gave an improve e.Lab to Tisa National High School last Aug. 13.
“Davao Light and the Aboitiz Group have always given public school education a very special place in our CSR programs. We will continue to support the Department of Education in its need for more teaching facilities and skills training,” said Engineer Rodger S. Velasco, DLPC Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, in his speech during the turnover ceremony in La Paz National High School.
The e.Lab initiative is a collaborative effort between AboitzPower and the Aboitiz Foundation. To date, DLPC has turned over 20 e.Labs to different public high schools within its franchise, with plans to donate more in the coming months.
“We believe in the importance of our youth and the difference each of them can do to make our world a better place,” Velasco added.

The lack of equipment for technical-vocational classes is one of the challenges faced by the DepEd in the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program.
Fulfilling its promise of advancing business and communities, AboitizPower provides e.Labs to schools in its host communities to serve as a training facility where students are equipped with skills that will open doors for employment.
“I challenge the teachers and students of Tisa National High School to fully utilize this electrical laboratory,” said VECO Chief Operating Officer Anton Mari Perdices.
The refurbished e.Lab turned over by VECO will make learning a better experience for 80 Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) students of Tisa National High School.
Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Bianito A. Dagatan, accepted Perdices’ challenge and led the EIM students of Tisa National High School in the pledge to make use of the laboratory to enhance their learning experience.
In 2014, VECO also donated welding and culinary equipment and refurbished the culinary and welding rooms of Don Carlos A. Gothong National High School.
VECO is an active partner of DepEd, implementing different projects geared toward improving education, including a project that upgrades the electrical wiring system of the different public schools within its franchise area.
On the same date, VECO also turned over its 89th rewiring project to Alaska Elementary School. To date, VECO has rewired total of 3,434 classrooms since 2010.
VECO and DLPC are the Philippines’ second and third largest electric distribution utilities, respectively. Through the Aboitiz Group, AboitizPower has more than 70 years of experience in the Philippine power distribution sector and has been known for innovation and efficient operations.
Among the pillars of VECO’s and DLPC’s outreach programs are the promotion of education, protection of the environment, and the development of the community within their respective franchise areas.
