The Aboitiz Group’s digital transformation takes another major leap forward with the launch of a.lab (Aboitiz Lab) last April 6 at the Taguig Corporate Center. The new facility is designed to be a center for innovation that helps promote collaboration and interaction in an agile work environment.
Beyond the physical space and its aesthetics, being agile begins and ends with a mindset of owning how one prefers to work in pursuit of innovation in order to be more productive. In the coming months, with new equipment and devices expected to be brought in, A-People can expect to be introduced to new ways of working, enriched by exploration in a fun and creative environment.
“We envision a.lab to be the workplace of the future—where team members will be inspired to collaborate and learn from each other. We want it to be a fun space to work in, to have team members look forward to coming to work because their workplace is vibrant and dynamic. a.lab will be our platform to launch us into our digital transformation journey, an agile environment where everyone can build the proper digital mindset,” explained Jojo Guingao, AEV Chief Digital Officer.
Lounge Area – featuring a 2×3 video wall, the lounge area is the perfect place to usher in visitors and let them enjoy visual presentations while they wait for their host.
Experience Corner – guests and team members alike can learn and experience new technology here.. This month, you can learn more about 3D printing
I’m excited about the Experience Corner. I know everyone’s interested in new technologies, so it’s great that we now have a place at work where we can actually use it and see how it works. Who knows, it might inspire us to use them in our work projects.

Digital Studio – gone are the days of our tiny, makeshift studio! The new Digital Studio now looks more professional with its own control room, bigger space to accommodate more talents/guests, and better equipment. Definitely more equipped to handle livestreams, online townhalls, and any type of video and photo shoot.
Weather Area – monitoring weather is now made easier! The special Weather Area on the 15F has two 55″ screens where our meteorologists can monitor our screens. There are also provisions for quick weather broadcasts, so we will all be Weather Wiser!
Social/Media – like the Weather Area, this section also has two 55″ screens to monitor social media sentiment using Hootsuite and Digimind, and the other for media screenings.
Trophy Wall – as soon as you enter the 15F, take a look at the many accolades we’ve collected through the years.
Pantry – the pantry is similar to the 9F’s open pantry, creating more opportunities for team members to interact and socialize. Minor upgrades include writable cabinet doors, and trash chutes on the pantry table.
Expression Board – right across the pantry is a nod to old skool communication–a black board. Dubbed the Expression Board, this is where team members can post announcements, greetings, or even play a quick game of tic-tac-toe during their break.
Art Wall – in the middle of the workstations stands a floor-to-ceiling ArtWall. For the opening, a large mural about Digital Mindset was drawn with chalk, with keywords that feature the qualities that Agile team members need to thrive in the Digital Age. A quote by Tita Nunno of Gartner sums up the message that the Digital Team wants every team member to keep in mind: “The secret of Digital is Analog: People.”
I was really happy with how the ArtWall came out. We added it to complement all the tech screens, and it really added a lot of color and personality to the floor. It’s also a great way to communicate our Digital agenda, like this first artwork about the Digital Mindset and the qualities that come with it. I can’t wait to see the different ways we can use this space to have fun and keep everyone engaged.
