APRI-Tiwi team members show strong support for LGU initiatives

Arcel Madrid | March 15, 2018

Guided by the stakeholder engagement objectives and the value of responsibility, APRI-Tiwi team members (TMs) trooped in support of the initiatives of the local government unit (LGU) of Tiwi, Albay.

Now its 4th year, the “Puno Mula sa Puso” Program of the Tiwi Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) and Tiwi Watershed Area Team has been a successful initiative every Valentine’s season that aims to showcase the love of Tiwinhons for the environment.

Last February 15, some 51 APRI TMs woke up and traveled a little bit earlier than their usual schedule to support the “Puno Mula sa Puso” program. Despite the muddy terrain, the TMs hiked and planted fruit-bearing and forestry seedlings at the Tiwi Agro-Industrial School Extension in Barangay Joroan.

March is the Fire Prevention Month as per Presidential Proclamation No. 115. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) across the country holds a parade on the first day of the month.

With the theme “Walk for a Fire-free and Fire-safe Nation,” 34 APRI TMs joined in the rally together with other volunteers and stakeholders in spite of the rain.

Fire safety and precaution is nothing new to APRI. In fact, the TMs with the help of the BFP officers semi-annually conduct a fire drill at the power plant site as part of its Business Continuity and Emergency Response Plans.

“APRI is very much active in supporting the programs of the local government unit of the Municipality of Tiwi. This is a validation of the commitment of AboitizPower to be the neighbor of choice to the areas where it operates.”

-Willie Sarmago, Facility Manager, APRI-Tiwi

APRI-Tiwi, through its Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Reputation Management (RMT) Departments, also supports the annual Coron Festival parade, bloodletting and volunteer-run of Red Cross, run for sea turtles, Christmas cheers, among others.
