‘Bakerella’, a mother’s gift to her children

The Pilmico Research and Training Bakery (PRTB) in BF Homes, Parañaque opened in early 2013. One of the first to enroll was Thet Barsamira who signed up for the bakery management course soon after learning about it on her way to work one morning.

The doting mother had always enjoyed baking sweets, mainly for her three school age children.

“Natuwa ako kasi naisip ko at that time, ‘baka ito na yun’, kaya nag-enroll ako agad,” Thet shared, alluding to the opportunity of running her own business.

During the six-day training led by Chef Cynthia Durian, Thet discovered the science of baking, beyond mixing dry with wet ingredients. It was a skill that needed to be truly understood and mastered.

After further training and much encouragement from family and friends, Thet finally took the bold step. She left her 8-to-5 job and started Bakerella.

What began as a hobby has grown into a homebaking business that supplies coffeehouse chains and top groceries in the country.

Combining passion for baking with the determination to succeed for her children, Thet has generated partnerships with top clients such as Bo’s Coffee, Bean Leaf, Shopwise, and Rustan’s Supermarket. She affirms that her success is largely because of the training she got from Pilmico.

Since launching her business in November 2013, Thet continued attending various baking classes to hone and develop her craft. But she always goes back to what she learned from Chef Cynthia and her training days at PRTB.

I also like how they make you feel special.

In the next five years, Thet dreams of opening a coffee shop alongside her growing homebaking business. It will, of course, serve treats Bakerella is known for.
