Banking with purpose

UnionBank is committed to excellence, not only for goals of profitability, but more importantly on opportunities for innovation and customer centricity made possible as we continuously strive to embed ourselves in the fabric of society and in the communities we serve.

We need purpose to build an enduring bank of greatness. The reason we get to live beyond 35 years is because we innovate, reinvent and have a purpose. The successes we have achieved, from financial returns to prominent distinctions, are testimony to UnionBankers’ living our purpose: To fulfill dreams, to elevate lives, and to enable communities through Smart Banking in the spirit of Ubuntu, all with intentionality and focus to drive change for a better world.

In line with the recently launched Aboitiz Group Purpose, we embarked on our very own sustainability journey pursuing a strategy that is focused on People, Planet, and Purpose. With this as our guiding principle, we will achieve more by investing and harnessing the best from our talent pool and we will deliver more meaningful products and services while managing resources and impact.

This year we kickstarted our LEED to LEAD initiative when we received the country’s first gold and platinum certifications under LEED Standards (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Our Tacloban branch, which was the first bank to restore operations after Super Typhoon Yolanda ravaged the province in 2013, became the first bank branch to earn LEED Gold certification. It was followed by the recently opened Olongapo branch, which now stands proudly with the platinum certification.

To achieve LEED Platinum and Gold certifications, UnionBank went through rigorous assessments on incorporating features across water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design. Comprehensive staff training was critical top-down in order to ensure the success beyond certification, and that our UnionBankers understood what this investment means to them.

Subscribing to AboitizPower’s Cleanergy brand, we have unveiled the only banking corporate center that is powered by 3.4MW of clean energy. Unionbank Plaza now runs on 100% renewable energy derived from the 420MW Makban geothermal power plant.

Through these initiatives, UnionBank demonstrates a strong commitment to continue cultivating sustainability into its operations. By introducing more meaningful products and services, it does its share of using business as a force for good – ensuring social responsibility touches the lives of each and every one of the bank’s stakeholders.
