Bantayan honors its ‘adopted son’ Bobby

Marco Deligero | Dec. 15, 2017

The people of the Municipality of Bantayan, Cebu paid tribute to the late RAFI President Roberto “Bobby” Aboitiz (REA) in appreciation for his various contributions towards improving lives in the northern Cebu town.

Mayor Ian Escario turned over a charcoal portrait of REA along with a collage of selected photos from his outreach activities in Bantayan to Mrs. Marian Aboitiz at a special ceremony held at the RAFI Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center last December 4.

We are here today to express our deep gratitude to the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc for the priceless assistance you have extended to Bantayan and the thousands of Banyatanons thru the years. The continued partnership of RAFI and Bantayan is testament to our shared commitment to education. We take the road less taken and fight on because that is what Sir Bobby would have wanted us to do. May the memory of this great man continue to be our guiding light in building stronger, better and brighter communities. I assure you, his bugsay legacy will live on. Sir Bobby’s memory and legacy not only lingers but lives forever in our hearts.

– Mayor Ian Escario, Municipality of Bantayan, Cebu

Also at the event were RAFI Vice President Mikel Aboitiz and Board of Trustees members Fr. Ernesto Javier, Atty. Manuel Go, and RAFI President Domi Chua, Dudes Aboitiz, and Carlos Aboitiz as well as the foundation’s team leaders. RAFI Chairman Jon Aboitiz (JRA) and RAFI Trustee Amaya Aboitiz linked via videocon.

JRA and Mrs. Marian Aboitiz thanked the Mayor Escario for the gesture.

The program included a video (click below) featuring RAFI’s contributions to Bantayan over the years, projects which REA had been the proponent.

On September 24, 2013, the Municipality of Bantayan passed Resolution no. 191 declaring REA as adopted son of their town in recognition of the late RAFI President’s dedication to the plight of a community of insufficient educational facilities.
