In marking the first anniversary of the Marawi conflict, CNN Philippines featured Pilmico and Aboitiz Foundation’s Noble Bakers Program that opens doors to a new source of livelihood for wounded-in-action soldiers. Wilburt Wong, Bakery Technician at the Pilmico Research and Training Bakery, shared his one of a kind experience with the ‘noble bakers’, many of whom fought and were injured in the line of duty in Marawi.
Chef Wilburt has great admiration for the soldiers’ resilience, something he witnessed over a period of three months as he taught them how to make a variety of breads as well as the ins and outs of comprehensive bakery management.
“Tumaas ang tingin ko ng husto sa mga sundalo natin…(sa Noble Bakers Program), doon ko nakita na kahit mayroon silang disabilities, maganda pa rin ang outlook nila sa buhay,” he said
