In line with its advocacy to educate teachers and raise awareness about breast cancer, City Savings Bank (CitySavings) extended its Project Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Program in Southern Mindanao to reach more public school educators.
The bank partnered with the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 11 to hold this signature Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative on November 20 at the Diamond Hall, Quirino Avenue, Davao City, where over 60 participants from eight divisions attended.
We have found out that breast cancer is considered as one of the top two leading causes of death of our borrowers from 2014 to 2016 thus, this scenario led us to initiate a program such as Project Pink that will look after the welfare of our dear public school teachers.
– Amor Pavon, Regional Business Head for Southern Mindanao, CitySavings
Meanwhile, oncologist and guest speaker Dr. Honey Sarita Abarquez talked about the importance of breast cancer awareness. “CitySavings Project Pink is very helpful for everyone, especially to the public school teachers since they are exposed to a lot of activities and sometimes attention to health is taken for granted.”
“A clear mindset is key to properly handle [breast] cancer,” shared breast cancer survivor Melian Avila as she recalled her courageous fight against the disease.
CitySavings Project Pink has taught me several things, not only about fighting cancer but most importantly its early treatment. I hope that the program reaches out to more women in the community.
– Rosalie Maghinay, Registered Nurse, DepEd Division of Compostela Valley
CitySavings will continue to create sustainable CSR programs that promote a sustainable community. The participants of this forum came from the provinces of Davao del Sur, Oriental and Occidental, and cities of Davao, Digos, Mati, Panabo and Tagum.
