#Teamwork: The A-Club Program is back!

Here in the Aboitiz Group, the fun and enjoyment don’t stop. In support of the mission to provide A-People with a gateway to widen their network and meet new people, the A-Club Program is back on its second year. This year, seven newly formed clubs are added to the six pioneer clubs, making this family a bigger community for 2019.

It runs in the blood

Giving back to the community in whatever way possible has always been in the DNA of A-People, and that includes donating blood. Aboitiz partnered with Philippine Red Cross for a bloodletting activity at the Taguig Corporate Center to contribute to the national blood requirement and help save more lives.

AEV net income up 3% in 2018

AEV posted a 3% increase in its net income for the full year 2018 to PHP22.2 billion from PHP21.6 billion in 2017 — with the power business unit remaining the biggest income contributor, accounting for 73%, while banking and financial services, food, land, and infrastructure BUs pitched in 16%, 7%, 3%, and 1%, respectively.

Aboitiz ranks among Asean’s top 50 PLCs for corp gov

At the 2nd ASEAN Corporate Governance Awards held in Kuala Lumpur last November 21, Aboitiz Equity Ventures and AboitizPower were among named among the public listed companies (PLCs) to make it to the Top 50 ASEAN PLCs. AEV and AP were recognized for achieving excellence in corporate governance best practices based on the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) assessment in 2017.

Bright ideas emerge from the Aboitiz Group’s first ‘Decode Tomorrow’ hackathon

The Philippines’ digital community, seen as an emerging growth sector, got a significant and innovative boost with the staging of the Aboitiz Group’s Decode Tomorrow: An Aboitiz Future Challenge. Held from November 10 to 11, gathered 800 professionals, start-ups, freelancers, and college students to a 24-hour hackathon to come up with solutions for business- and community-oriented challenges specific to Aboitiz business units.

The Aboitiz Group will kickstart an agri micro-entrepreneurship program for corn farmers, build bakeries and donate baking equipment, conduct capability-building training, donate hollow-block making kits and sacks of cement to help rebuild structures, and donate electrical equipment to Lanao Del Sur Electric Cooperative (LASURECO) to help restore power service to the area.

Aboitiz launches sustainable livelihood programs in Marawi

The Aboitiz Group launched a number of sustainable livelihood programs to help Maranaos start anew, one year after Marawi City’s liberation from the armed siege. Dubbed “Kawiyagan: Biyaya ng Pagbabago”, the program is a series of sustainable livelihood initiatives for the residents of Sagonsongan Resettlement Site, which temporarily houses thousands of displaced families. It complements the government’s efforts to help the once bustling capital of Lanao Del Sur get back on its feet.

AEV’s nine-month net income up by 9% to PHP17.3 billion

On a year-to-date basis, AEVs net income for the first nine months of 2018 was PHP17.3 billion, 9% higher than the PHP15.9 billion recorded last year, while core net income stood at PHP17.7 billion, up 4% from PHP17.1 billion last year. Gains from the company’s Power, Food, and Land strategic business units contributed to the increase.

A-Clubs in Focus: Creating hope in the community through basketball

The A-Balleros take pride in knowing the history of the sport and everyone involved in it. Even before A-Club was launched, the members would rally to form a team that would represent in sports fests or even just for a simple friendly game after office hour. The club, in coordination and partnership with various business units, aims to have a weekly/monthly get together to play for camaraderie and fitness.

This year’s theme was aptly called “Stellar” — a word used to refer for “star” as the company shed the brightest light on its team members who are identified as the lifeblood of the organization — recognizing 40 awardees, ranging from 10 years up to 40 years of service from both Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) and Aboitiz Power (AP).

There is a little shop in London called Sautter owned by Laurence Davis. He is an old friend of mine from whom I have been securing great Cuban cigars for a long time. In his little shop, he has four or five seats where aficionados enjoy their cigars, his company, and that of other civilized cigar smokers.

Aboitiz Mindanao Unity Games 2018

About 200 A-People from various Mindanao-based Aboitiz business units came together for a day of fun-filled team activities at the second annual Aboitiz Mindanao Unity Games (UGames), held at Rancho Palos Verdes Clubhouse in Davao City on July 21, 2018.

Improving capabilities through government partnerships

With GovRel’s Innovation in Governance Academy (IG Academy), Aboitiz was able to offer to both National Irrigation Authority (NIA) and Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) training modules which actually helped them improve not only themselves but also the processes they handle in their work assignments.

Last October 15, Aboitiz unveiled an artist's perspective of the Balabag Wetland Park (Boracay Wetland No. 4) development project with Sec. Roy Cimatu (DENR), Sec. Eduardo Año (DILG,) DENR-BMB representatives, and LGU officials.

Aboitiz joins campaign to redeem the Boracay wetlands

The Aboitiz Group is giving the government’s ongoing rehabilitation of Boracay an added boost by partnering with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). On August 13, 2018, both parties signed a memorandum of agreement under which Aboitiz will adopt and revive Wetland 4, one of nine wetlands scattered across the island.

PARIMA held its Marsh-Lloyd’s Risk Conversation forum in Bonifacio Global City last May 10, welcoming 96 delegates of whom 23 are risk practitioners from the Aboitiz Group.
