Digital champs visit Google PH for Aboitiz Brand Day

Digital Champions were special guests at Google’s Aboitiz Brand Day at the much raved about Google Philippines office last April 24. The team loaded up on insights and other fascinating information from their exclusive peek into the world of the pioneering company.

Ziggy Mangahas, Google’s Digital Solutions Manager, and Ian Macariola, from Google Marketing Solutions, welcomed the Aboitiz party and talked to them about a host of Google services and solutions that can be tailored for Aboitiz Group BUs and help increase exposure and engagement across the digital landscape.

The presentations also revealed facts about the current state of search and digital marketing (Trivia: YouTube is the second most popular search engine after Google). Meanwhile, key highlights gleaned from Google Analytics included snapshots on user behavior online, with special emphasis on the wide reach of YouTube, especially in the Philippine setting. The concept of micro-moments, for instance, is an intersection of intent, content, and immediacy, which is Google’s way of identifying what moves its audience.

Google’s Philippine office stays true to the workplace trademark the company is known for, with simple yet colorful workstations, a thematic lobby, and other common spaces. The reception area is emblazoned with a large Google logo in the Philippine flag’s three stars and the sun while a wall is painted with the iconic jeepney. The lobby features a wooden wall with a Philippine map and is accentuated with modern chairs by Cebuano designer Kenneth Cobonpue.



Anyone who works at Google is never more than 200 feet away from food, a philosophy that is “enforced” in all Google offices. Almost on cue, this segued to the lunch invitation for the team at the pantry.

Lunchtime at Google is a casual, relaxing affair—food is served in pots on a counter, much like in one’s home. The cereal station is available round-the-clock and a refrigerator is stocked with personal-sized cartons of milk, yogurt, and chilled fruits. Beverage choices are coffee, spa water, and juice that can go with different snacks inside stacked wooden crates. And the best part? Employees get their meals free.

Speaking on the Google visit, AboitizPower VP for Corporate Branding & Communication Ria Calleja said that it’s “good to get out of the office…sometimes, we need a change of environment to get inspired.” She added that the brand presentation creates a better understanding of what Google has to offer. “We are used to Google as a search engine tool, but we need to understand better how Google can help us in marketing, in communications, in brand building.”
