Earth Hour at the AboitizLand communities

In a symbolic action to help change climate change, AboitizLand partnered with homeowners, merchants, and locators to mark Earth Hour 2016 by switching off non-essential lights for one whole hour on March 19.

Homes, buildings, and establishments at AboitizLand’s Kishanta, Ajoya, and The Persimmon Plus properties as well as throughout Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) II simultaneously went dark at 8:30 PM, saving up to 1,642 kilowatts of power.

Around 900 residents from the different communities took part in the global movement by joining several activities hosted by AboitizLand. Fire dancers and drummers entertained the crowd, a Trivia Night happened at The Persimmon Plus, and an e-waste collection campaign also took place at the different AboitizLand business units.

Just before Earth Hour, AboitizLand team members led an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign called ‘Kiddie Earth Heroes Caravan’ at both Ajoya and Kishanta. The caravan aimed to raise awareness on how to “change climate change” by bringing together its stakeholders in its commitment to nurture the environment.

Locator volunteers and partners at MEZ II also held the caravan for students of selected Lapu-Lapu City elementary schools. Contests for recycled costumes, Earth Hour productions, and Solid Waste Management Sustainability were held throughout the lights-off event at The Outlets at Pueblo Verde.
