E-Cadets lead SMEs to new frontier with e-commerce

UnionBank’s culture of innovation continues to break new ground through its UREKA E-Cadet Program that equips college students with skills and practical knowledge on e-commerce.

Last November, over 300 participants learned about building an online business from industry leaders and experts who shared insights on e-commerce, digital marketing, and personal branding. They also experienced first hand how to set up a full-service online platform that integrates electronic payments and logistics. Included in the discussion was encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to convert from brick-and-mortar businesses to one-stop online shops.



For us in UnionBank, the UREKA E-Cadet Program is just one avenue where we reaffirm our commitment to empower the Filipino entrepreneur to succeed. Youth, after all, is the future of our country and what better way to involve them in nation-building and inclusive economic growth than inviting them to be UREKA E-Cadets.

Enabling students to establish a viable source of income for their future puts the UREKA E-Cadet Program in a significant role that supports the Department of Trade and Industry’s target of 100,000 SMEs nationwide engaged in e-commerce by 2020.



What we want to happen is for our MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) to try it and to be confident enough to really do marketing through e-commerce. And I would believe that with the E-Cadets—who can help them set this up, teach them how to do it, make them more confident because they know that there’s someone to help them and hold them all the way—would really be a good way to do this and be able to achieve what we want to happen by 2020 or even earlier.
