A look back at 2016
We introduced our retail brand PERA HUB in May, which was positively received by the market. All throughout the year, we undertook a rapid expansion of our branch network, opening over 100 new locations nationwide. We launched our PERA HUB Loyalty Card in September with a rapid uptake among our customers. We had product and service expansions as an outsourced service provider for DepEd Salary Loans, GSIS Pension Loans, and ACDI Military Loans.
Our foreign exchange business showed tremendous growth. Apart from expanding our customer base, we were able to establish greater synergy with UnionBank, which greatly contributed to this growth. Also noteworthy are our added-value products that added to the positive performance trajectory of the company.
Moreover, Western Union had a shift in strategy, now allowing sub-agents to offer its money transfer service on a non-exclusive basis. In response to this, we signed up LBC as the first non-exclusive Western Union sub-agent in the country. To jumpstart the partnership, customers can now receive remittances sent via Western Union through LBC’s over 1,400 locations nationwide. This substantially expands PETNET’s network reach, resulting in greater convenience for its customers.
Paying it forward
Alongside these advancements, we continue to take part in CSR activities that affect our communities. Our employees participated in AEV’s Brigada Eskwela where they cleaned and painted local schools in preparation for the coming school year.
We also continue to engage in financial literacy activities with Western Union. In September 2016, volunteer employees shared practical tips to children in local schools on the importance of saving money.
Our annual commitment to give back and share the blessings we received as a group was held at the Sto. Niño Home for the Aged Inc. in Marikina City in December 2016. Just recently, in January this year, we extended financial assistance to employees affected by the flood waters in Cagayan de Oro.
We have realized that to be a part of a community, it takes active participation in getting to know the people and engaging them to be a part of a social move that would benefit future generations.
Gearing up for 2017
2017 will definitely present greater challenges to face and greater heights to scale and conquer. All around us, we continue to face an environment that is more competitive in business trends and more stringent in regulation.
Thus, we have and continue to put in place IT, risk management, and compliance systems and processes, to respond to these challenges. We shall continue to improve our business operations to adapt and better respond to the ever-growing needs of the market.
We are excited to share with you our plans to make PERA HUB more accessible to and convenient for our customers. As part of its digital initiatives, PERA HUB shall introduce the PERA HUB Mobile Application, the first of its kind in the financial services industry. Customers will be able to locate the nearest PERA HUB branch, view the list of loan requirements, and monitor PERA HUB Card points. Users of the application can also check the latest PERA HUB promos and rewards, and explore its other products and services. We aim to eventually roll out a functionality that will allow customers to conduct transactions through this application.
In strengthening our retail brand, PERA HUB will remain as one of our priorities as we explore new and better ways to heighten customer delight.
We shall continue to support CSR activities of the Aboitiz Group in tandem with our own continuing efforts to develop more purposive CSR activities for our company.
It is our goal to be fully aligned with the Group’s level of corporate governance as we remain true to our core values as an organization.
PETNET remains steadfast in its commitment to provide as much value as it can to all its stakeholders.
