At Aboitiz, we believe that each of us has an important part to play in building a better, greener world for the future generations. We also know that we cannot do it alone.
On July 14, 2018, more than 3,600 volunteers gathered for the annual Aboitiz Groupwide Simultaneous Tree Planting. In high spirits for the yearly event, team members planted about 86,000 seedlings across 21 planting sites all over the Philippines, with plans to plant more trees in the coming months as part of our A-Park program.
Various business units across the Aboitiz Group–Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc., Aboitiz Power Corporation, Union Bank of the Philippines, Pilmico Foods Corporation, Aboitiz Land, Inc., Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc., and their respective units–planted various tree species and fruit-bearing trees including narra, cacao, guyabano, mahogany, and langka, which also aim to give surrounding communities some form of livelihood.
The Manila leg of the event was held at the AP Renewables, Inc. Geothermal Facility in Makiling-Banahaw, Laguna, where volunteers team members from 15 business units planted an estimated 23,000 seedlings in nine sites.
In addition to the July 14 activity, Aboitiz has also partnered with with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) and the Department of Education (DepEd), and another with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP). Consolidated under A-Park, these partnerships target to plant 1 million trees in various planting sites in Cebu (RAFI-DepEd partnership) and within the Marikina Watershed (PBSP partnership).
“It is through A-Park that we vow to grow not only with our communities, but also with our environment. Being mindful of our surroundings, limiting our impact to the planet, and doing what we can to mitigate the effects we have on our environment are central to our promise of advancing business and communities. It is this awareness that steers us towards sustainable and responsible growth.”
-Erramon I. Aboitiz, President and CEO, Aboitiz Group
