Republic Cement & Building Materials Inc. (RCBM) continues its partnership with Gawad Kalinga (GK), this time to better serve the schoolchildren of our host community in Taysan, Batangas.

The first Kusina ng Kalinga in Batangas will rise in Taysan this school year to provide nutritious in-school lunches for undernourished students in four Department of Education-identified elementary schools.

“We believe that this partnership with GK concretizes our commitment to positively impact the communities where we operate. We are not only feeding schoolchildren – we are feeding our future movers and shakers, we are nourishing dreams.”

-Renato Sunico, President, RCBM

RCBM has provided GK a grant to refurbish and transform a room in Taysan Central School into a kitchen, where nutritious meals will be prepared for 750 pupils for this school year. As with any community project, our Taysan neighbors will also be doing their share by assisting in food preparation, logistics, and utilities and delivering the meals to the beneficiary schools.

Ready to feed schoolchildren and nourish dreams are (from right): Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc. President Renato Sunico; Taysan Mayor Grande Gutierrez; Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas; GK Movement Building Head Jose Emilio Oquinena; and Taysan Central School principal Belinda Arellano.

“This is the realization of bayanihan, the coming together of the government and private sector. We thank Republic Cement for leading the charge in showing what a kitchen (in Taysan) can offer and what we can achieve when we work hand in hand.”

-Jose Emilio Oquinena, Movent Building Head, Gawad Kalinga

“Napakapalad namin dahil meron kaming kaagapay, tulad ng Republic Cement at Gawad Kalinga, para matugunan ang mga pangangailangang pangkalusugan ng aming mga bata sa Taysan.”

-Grande Gutierrez, Taysan Mayor

Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas also commended RCBM for having a strong sense of corporate social responsibility towards its host communities, and for the extensive role the company plays by being the only cement manufacturing plant in South Luzon.

As an organization dedicated to contributing significantly to nation building, RCBM adopts an inclusive view that it is in our schools our future as a country is born. By helping students achieve their nutrition needs, RCBM in return helps in shaping their potential.
