Halo-halo and ice candy are summertime treats. But for 11% of Filipinos living in remote areas like Barangays San Mateo and Minuyan in Norzagaray, Bulacan, who have no access to electricity, those are not exactly household summer staples.
However, this will soon change as Republic Aggregates, together with Meralco and the Norzagaray LGU, recently broke ground for a project that paves the way for the future electrification of these barangays. With the plant soon to be connected to the grid, households in the area will be able to apply for a connection with Meralco following the first phase of the project.
The ground breaking ceremony was attended by Rodel de la Torre, Meralco Relationship Manager; Angela Edralin, Republic Director for Environmental Performance and Community Relations; Joey Pamintuan, Meralco Implementation Team Leader for Plaridel; Minuyan Barangay Captain Edmar Tovillo; San Mateo Barangay Captain Frederico Cruz; Norzagaray Mayor Geronimo Cristobal, Jr.; Felipe Baniqued, Jr., President, Luzon Continental Land Corporation (Republic Cement Group); and Renato Sunico, President, Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc.; PV Aquino, Republic Director for Public Affairs; Anda Bolinas, Republic Director for Strategic Lands and Sustainability.
“The Republic Group is committed to positively impact our communities. We want our communities to grow as we grow. With the development of this vital utility infrastructure, we hope to spur economic growth in the area.”
