In celebration of Environment Month, which had as theme, “Connecting People to Nature”, Republic Cement recently hosted the first Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Forum in Region IV Calabarzon, gathering over a hundred participants that included technical and non-technical MGB personnel, representatives of the local governments of Taysan and Batangas, the academe, and other stakeholders within Republic’s host community.
Held at Republic’s Batangas plant, the forum aimed to educate the participants about policies governing the mining industry as well as best practices that promote responsible mining.
In her message, MGB OIC Regional Director Socorro Hernandez lauded Republic Cement for being, “among the mining companies that truly adhere to the principles of responsible mining, especially on environmental concerns.”
At the Forum, several Republic presenters, including Renato Sunico, President of Republic Cement and Building Materials, Inc., showcased the company’s best practices in plant operations, sustainability, Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) implementation, as well as corporate social responsibility.
In his message to the participants, Mr. Sunico reiterated the company’s heartfelt commitment to continue uplifting our local communities, and further sought the participants’ support and leadership to address key local and national challenges so that the company may continue to optimize its existing operations, invest in the future, and ultimately contribute towards building a stronger republic,”
After the program, participants were given a guided tour of the plant to introduce them to the many sustainable initiatives that the plant has adopted over the years.
