Close to 2,000 AboitizPower team members gathered last June 29, July 16, July 30, and August 2 in various locations in Manila, Cebu, Baguio, and Davao, respectively, to kick off the 1AP Culture.

Made up of a series of activities that re-articulated the 1AP Culture, the program sought to ensure that the company’s culture statements are clear and simple for all to understand and live by every day.

After a decade of focusing on strengthening its businesses, processes, policies, and systems, AboitizPower has now empowered its team members to live up to the company’s expectations in the following aspects: High Performance, Owner’s Mindset, Learning and Growth, Atmosphere, and Values.

We have come this far and I believe that we will move further into the future and fulfill our purpose if we all live our values and our culture.

– Antonio R. Moraza, AboitizPower President and Chief Executive Officer

AboitizPower Chief Operating Officer Emmanuel V. Rubio said the 1AP Culture launch was necessary to continuously improve collaboration among AP business units and to give team members a clearer sense of belonging and purpose.

“Together, we will seize every opportunity to live our values. Let us help each other live the values and hold each other responsible for being role models,” Rubio added.

For his part, Felino M. Bernardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AboitizPower Generation Business Group, highlighted the value of having an owner’s mindset, which is expressed through “malasakit.”

“Malasakit is what drives us to act as good stewards to ensure that we leave things behind better than when we found them,” Bernardo said.

As the series of 1AP Culture launch activities wrapped up in Davao City last August 2, the challenge for AboitizPower and its team members now is how to sustain the momentum of what they started.

“Now that we’ve heard these and we have all experienced being together as 1AP, let us remember that this is just the beginning. Making our culture alive depends on the leaders, and you and me, all of us,” said Jaime Jose Y. Aboitiz, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AboitizPower Distribution Business Group.

He encouraged team members to start being aware of the company’s values of Integrity, Teamwork, Innovation, Responsibility, and Service Excellence, as well as of the AP Culture statements.

Furthermore, he explained that awareness should be brought up to understanding, emphasizing the need to clarify when one does not know. He also encouraged team members to have conversations with their leaders and teams about the company’s values and culture.

This is the challenging part — to live our values and culture day by day, moment by moment, wherever we are in the organization. Make the culture relevant to you and integrate it into how you do your work every day.”
