UnionBank, AmCham assist Typhoon Nina victims in rebuilding their homes

UnionBank partnered with Habitat for Humanity and the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) to extend assistance to those who lost their homes to Typhoon Nina.

Described as the strongest typhoon to hit Bicol in 10 years, Typhoon Nina left the region with a Christmas Day that was anything but merry. At least 70,000 families were devastated, many of them homeless and in distress. Affected families welcomed the new year in evacuation centers, uncertain of how they would rebuild their homes and start anew.

With this in mind, AmCham – through the American Chamber Foundation Philippines – appealed to its members for emergency shelter assistance for the typhoon victims. The Foundation believes that immediate support on home repair can prevent “second disasters,” or residual problems stemming from the calamity such as the long-term physical and mental health problems of affected families.

Through its collaboration with AmCham and Habitat for Humanity, UnionBank will provide house repair kits with construction materials to families in Camarines Sur and Catanduanes. Skilled laborers will also be present to assist the families rebuild their homes.
