UnionBank Digital Experience: Celebrating 35 years with a pledge for full digital transformation

UnionBank recently celebrated its 35th anniversary with a pledge to fully transform into a digital bank after posting an all-time high net income and a series of awards from international award-giving bodies last year. Coined as the UnionBank Digital Experience, or UDX, the celebration kicked off with a grand fireworks display, a captivating laser show and Tron dancers, wowing more than 2,000 UnionBankers who graced the occasion.

The event was a victory party, with the Bank commemorating its milestones for the past 35 years and celebrating a victorious 2016.

The Bank posted a record-high consolidated net income 67% higher than in 2015 and garnered international awards, such as Best Commercial Bank and Best Innovation in Retail Banking from the International Banker and Best Company to Work For in Asia from the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards.

“Now I understand why we have a record year of profits and returns, and have received numerous awards. It is because you, my dear UnionBankers, wholeheartedly embrace our collective purpose as UnionBankers as your own personal purpose, creating a vision for yourself of a larger whole. In doing so, you give UnionBank real value to the communities we serve.”

–Justo Ortiz, Chairman and CEO of UnionBank

UnionBankers were encouraged to think, act and work like never before. The Bank recognized the exemplary works of their employees that used technology to revolutionize banking.

Among the projects that challenged conventions and achieved extraordinary results were the launching of the first and only debit card for stocks, devising a system to engage repeat clients, and employing advanced analytics to increase number of credit card lines. The Bank also honored the team behind UnionBank Hackathon (U:HAC), the event attended by groups of computer programmers and digital enthusiasts to develop software and apps that will benefit the society.

“The future will be about empowerment, collective leadership, and co-creation. We are using both the strength of our past and the innovation of the present to forge a future that will see us transform again and again into the best version of ourselves.”

–Edwin Bautista, President and COO of UnionBank
