Furthering its efforts to be a pioneer in green banking, UnionBank headquarters in Ortigas CBD in April unveiled its switch to 100% renewable energy through AboitizPower’s Cleanergy, the latter’s brand for renewable energy.
Justo Ortiz, UnionBank chairman and CEO, emphasized the need to safeguard the planet, amid the push for renewable energy to support the Bank’s offices and operations.
“As a bank, we aspire for enduring greatness, and sustainability is a foundational principle if we are to endure, to grow, and to prosper for a long, long time.”

The US Green Building Council (USGBC) recently awarded a LEED Platinum certification, the highest possible rating for leadership in energy efficiency and environmental design, to UnionBank’s Olongapo branch.
Moreover, the Bank’s Tacloban branch, which was the first bank to restore operations after Super Typhoon Yolanda ravaged the province in 2013, became the first bank branch to earn LEED Gold certification.
UnionBank’s full transfer to Cleanergy marks an important step in its trailblazing journey to adopt sustainability measures in day-to-day operations.
