In December 2016, UnionBank HR successfully organized the UnionBank Hackathon (U:HAC) 4.0 exclusively tailored for STI students.
Held at the Sky Lounge of UnionBank Plaza, 85 STI students, mostly seniors taking up IT courses, participated in the hackathon. The students were divided into nine teams and were tasked to produce the best digital applications that addressed the problems presented during the two-day event.
STI College Caloocan emerged as the champion in U:HAC 4.0 for their winning app entry, Union Mobile Pay. The mobile application would show different companies and the products they sold, which customers can order through different methods as they register in the app system. The group won the double-up prize of PHP100,000.
The event, which was held in partnership with Red Wizard, IBM Bluemix and Chikka API, gave STI students the chance to enter a friendly competition with other students from different campuses and showcase their talents and skills to a wider audience such as UnionBank, which continues to organize events such as U:HAC to look for creative minds that can be honed and help develop professional careers.
