UREKA, UnionBank’s flagship CSR initiative, participated as an exhibitor and one of the plenary speakers in the recent SOLB Sustainable Solutions Fair held at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
The event was organized by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the largest business sector-led social development organization in the country committed to poverty reduction.
Vice President James Ileto of the Center for Strategic Partnerships, who was one of the distinguished speakers at the plenary, addressed the audience about the Bank’s flagship CSR initiative, the UREKA Forum. UREKA is the Bank’s way of affirming its commitment to enable Filipinos to succeed by providing a platform for economic empowerment through e-commerce for entrepreneurs.
Catching the attention of the audience was the fact that since its launch in 2015, more than 900 MSMEs from key cities in the Philippines have been activated for free through the UREKA E-Commerce Circuit during the fora held in Baguio, Iloilo and Davao.
Thus far, more than 300 students have also been converted as E-Cadets to support and sustain the program. This complements the Department of Trade and Industry’s Philippine E-Commerce Roadmap, which aims to convert 100,000 MSMEs into tapping the global marketplace to further business growth through e-commerce by the year 2020.
