VECO donates to construction of building for Cebu public school

Visayan Electric Co. turned over on Oct. 26, 2016, a newly constructed two-storey, four-classroom building to the Alpaco Elementary School in the City of Naga, Cebu.

Each classroom can accommodate around 50 primary level students. The school building construction project costed P5.62 million, which was shared among VECO and Aboitiz Foundation Inc., and the City Government of Naga.

Aside from the building, VECO also equipped the school with sufficient lighting, 200 arm chairs, comfort rooms, new floor tiles and backboards.

As of the turnover of the Alpaco Elementary School building, VECO has helped 22 schools by providing a total of 55 classrooms. Alpaco Elementary School is the 19th recipient of VECO’s Adopt-A-School Project in 2016.

Alpaco Elementary School Principal Erlinda Dalogdog said that this is the first time that the school, which was established in 1950 and has 705 students, received a donation for a concrete school building.

“Uhaw kaayo mi sa ingun ani nga building, labi na gyud ang mga kabataan dinhi unya growing ang number sa among mga enrollees (We’ve been yearning for this kind of school building, especially since our enrollees are growing in number). We will take good care of it. On behalf of the parents and teachers association in Alpaco, your goodness will always be remembered by us teachers, children, parents and the entire community as well.”

VECO COO Anton Perdices said that the assistance is in line with the company’s program to help improve the education of the children in VECO’s franchise area.
