True to its commitment to helping the communities where it does business in, the Visayan Electric Company rushed to provide assistance to the City of Naga as well residents there who were displaced during the landslide last September 20.

The landslide buried about 30 houses in Barangays Tinaan and Naalad after the heavy rainfall brought by typhoon Ompong over the weekend.

Immediately after the incident, VECO de-energized the areas affected by the landslide to ensure the safety of the residents as well as of the search and rescue groups.

Recognizing, however, that light is crucial to the search and rescue operations, the distribution utility energized the electric poles near the landslide area and installed floodlights there.

On September 22, some 61 VECO Kaibigans distributed a total of 750 relief packs to displaced residents who were housed at the Enan Chiong Activity Center, Naga Central High School, Apo Gym, and Naalad Elementary School.

The relief packs, gathered through the combined efforts of VECO, the AboitizPower Oil Business Unit, and Aboitiz Foundation, each contained ready-to-eat food items, toiletries, four liters of water, and five kilos of rice.

Following the request of City of Naga Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong, VECO also donated over 100 wooden poles. These will be used to reinforce tunnels that the Naga City government is reportedly planning to dig through the collapsed mountain in an effort to fast-track the continuing search and recovery operations.
