The Visayan Electric Company (VECO) will now serve as first responder to all emergency cases related to pole attachments following the signing of an agreement with various telecommunication companies operating in Cebu City.
Under the Emergency Response Guidelines (ERG), VECO is authorized to work on pole attachments (e.g. telephone lines, cable TV lines, fiber optic cables, telephone cable terminals, and other telecommunication equipment for emergency related works) especially when there is public endangerment and regardless of whose wire is affected.
“VECO has 24-hour emergency units on standby in all its franchise areas. We are proud to say that it only takes our field personnel to respond to reported cases thirty minutes or less,â€ Saludes said. “We will respond as long as it compromises safety. Safety is our main concern.â€
Representatives from PLDT, Eastern Telecom, Globe, Smart, Skycable, CCTN, Telecphil, and Cebu Cable are co-signers of the ERG. Citizens may call (032) 230-VECO to report wire problems in their area.
