Aboitiz Construction Redirects CSR Purse To #OneAboitiz Relief

Aboitiz Construction has allocated 100% of its 2020 CSR budget to #OneAboitiz efforts in providing food, health, and safety supplies to families who have been affected in one way or another by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 7, the company joined Aboitiz Foundation and other Aboitiz business units present in West Cebu Industrial Park (WCIP) in Balamban, Cebu — namely, AboitizLand, Cebu Industrial Park Developers, and Balamban EnerZone — in turning over food supplies to the municipal local government. The supplies were in the form of 4,889 cans of sardines and 2,903 cans of beef loaf, which will be distributed to 2,210 families in Barangay Arpili and other nearby barangays.

While we do our part in making sure our own employees are well taken care of during this time, we have also stepped up our corporate social responsibility efforts by reallocating 100% of our 2020 CSR budget of PHP2.25 million to support One Aboitiz’s COVID-19 response in aiding the families across the country in need of food, health and safety supplies.

Aboitiz Construction kaubans together with other Aboitiz business units deliver food supplies to the local government of Balamban, Cebu.

Aboitiz Construction has been present at WCIP for 13 years, operating as Aboitiz Construction International and has two components — the modular fabrication facility and the Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu) hull fabrication teams, which cater to various local and international projects.

Caring For All Kaubans

The company believes in continually taking action to mitigate the impact of the pandemic while protecting the dignity, safety, and health of all team members during this unprecedented time. Fortunately, 90% of kaubans from the Manila and Cebu head offices quickly flipped the switch to working from the safety of their homes with almost zero breaks in productivity. For them, the company has paid out in advance the end-March as well as the 13th or 14th month salaries.

At the heart of Aboitiz Construction's business are project-based team members who also needed to adjust their work situation. For project team members who have no work and are stranded in the barracks due to the community lockdown, free accommodation with strictest safety/health monitoring and daily meals are being provided.

With intensified collaboration, engaged team leaders and team members, plus employing creative work approaches, the company has been able to execute the following in our project sites:

  • Set up an emergency fund in each project site to ensure relevant supplies, medicines and unforeseen expenses are taken care of;
  • In spite of logistics challenges, the company provided drums of alcohol and packages of face masks to the project;
  • Built and used isolation spaces for team members who manifest symptoms;
  • For team members stranded at the sites: continuous free accommodation with daily meals, health monitoring, and physical exercise;
  • Constant and daily communication in place:
  • Regular coordination meetings between the Safety Teams, Project Managers, and barangay officials for all project sites;
  • Internal daily online meetings among all of key people at project sites

Indeed, crises bring out the best in people and teams. For Aboitiz Construction, the "best" is fuelled by our core values of  teamwork, responsibility, and innovation intensified. Upholding integrity, meanwhile, means constantly challenging each other to execute with excellence even as ways of working transform.
