Visayan Electric Brings Love To 'Gasa Sa Gugma' For Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day, a celebration of romance and love, was originally created to honor Saint Valentine, a martyr who sacrificed himself for his religious beliefs. This year, Visayan Electric goes to Gasa sa Gugma for Valentine’s Day, bringing love and joy to the sick elderly people who have made sacrifices for their families and loved ones.

Gasa sa Gugma, which is run by the Sisters of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, is a home for destitute individuals nearing the end of their lives. It is located in Barangay Luz, and primarily serves elderly people with terminal illnesses who have been abandoned by their families.

Visayan Electric together with VECO Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (VEMCO), has donated essential goods including sacks of rice, daily essentials, and other basic necessities.

According to Gell Credo, CSR Specialist of Visayan Electric, Valentine’s Day is a celebration that goes beyond romantic love.

“Valentine’s Day celebrates all kinds of love, hence, we decided to give love to our sick elderlies who rarely get this opportunity,” said Credo.

Sister Maria Agatha, one of the nuns who oversees the institution, stated that they are seeking more volunteers and donors to assist them.

“We rely on divine providence, and all those who wish to help are warmly welcomed,” she said.

Currently, the home accommodates 50 individuals who need special care and assistance. If you wish to donate, Gasa sa Gugma is located at Cabantan Street, Barangay Luz, Cebu City.
