The Aboitiz Group’s Board leadership team recognizes the vital importance of on-the-ground situations, especially from those on the operations side. AEV Chairman Endika Aboitiz describes this as attention and engagement 24×7, which is especially vital if one’s role entails providing strategic guidance to the Group towards business sustainability. It was also the main reason for his recent visit to SacaSun in San Carlos, Negros Occidental.
EMA was met by the SacaSun Operations & Maintainance teams who toured him around the 75-hectare solar farm complex located inside the San Carlos Ecozone in Brgy. Punao. The latter also gave an orientation on the plant’s performance as well as other relevant updates.
“It is a great honor for me to personally share knowledge and experience with one of the most respected leaders in the Aboitiz Group. I am glad to meet EMA,” said Whemar Menion, SacaSun Operations and Maintenance Technician,
“The cost of solar is very much higher than we think but we do need to get the entire picture,” EMA said, sharing one of his takeaways from the presentation.

SacaSun, with its lean team, has maintained business continuity despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. They persevered to keep facilities operational throughout the quarantine period of the past year with strict protocols in place to ensure the safety of the on-site team members and contractors.

This is a nation and an economy whose priority is to pull people out of poverty. From wood to whale oil, to steam, and onward, we know it is energy that helps us create prosperity, which pulls people out of poverty, improves education, increases employment — raises the quality of life overall.
– Endika M. Aboitiz, Chairman of the Board, AEV
Even amid travel restrictions, the team gave extra effort to finally maximize the facility’s full capacity of 46.8 MW with the completion of the south line project by the first quarter of this year. More importantly, this enabled SacaSun’s utility-scale solar photovoltaic power plant to continue uninterrupted in reducing the emission of more than 44,000 tons of carbon dioxide over 20 years or an equivalent to removing around 10,000 cars off the road.
