AboitizPower’s Cleanergy unit Hedcor logged a generation of 182 million kWh for the first quarter of 2021 for its run-of-river hydropower operations.
From January to March of this year, Hedcor consistently achieved its monthly generation targets and has powered some 76,000 households. This also exceeds the company’s generation forecast of 123 million kWh for the first quarter.
“Aside from the favorable weather conditions, Hedcor’s performance for the first quarter of 2021 is largely driven by our continued efforts to improve plant reliability,” said Rolando Pacquiao, Hedcor’s Vice President for Operations.
This first quarter performance is attributed to the frequent rains experienced across the country during what is supposed to be dry season. In addition, Hedcor has also been steadily improving its reliability performance through ensuring high availability and maintaining low unplanned downtime hours.
As compared to Hedcor’s first quarter performance in the past five years, the group’s daily generation percentage is at its highest and most consistent. The hydropower firm logged an average daily generation percentage of 145.41% versus last year’s first quarter figure of 80.99%.
Pacquiao furthered that Hedcor continues its efforts to automate legacy hydro plants located in Luzon as well as integrate the Manolo Fortich Hydros in Bukidnon to the Mindanao Control Center. This control center was inaugurated in December of 2020.
This outstanding performance of Hedcor translates to a larger equivalent benefit that Hedcor’s host communities will reap. Some of which will focus on education assistance, livelihood projects, health and well-being programs, and environmental efforts.
Amid the pandemic, Hedcor ensures to meet the energy needs of the community through clean and renewable energy. In 2020, Hedcor recorded an annual generation of 957GWh, powering around 400,000 households, year-round.
