Reverse Mentoring Through The Eyes Of A Mentee

The only way to move forward is to learn.

We don’t realize it sometimes, but one of the reasons why we feel stuck in a rut, in a place, in an experience, is because we refuse to recognize the many ways we can learn to get out of it.  The Reverse Mentoring program was designed to encourage A-People to take one step forward and explore the multitude of possibilities available at our fingertips right now, with the help of those who are born during the generation that created the mobile workforce.

We sat down with one mentee who was happy to share the changes the program has brought into her ways of working. Meccah Jane Santiago is a Tax Audit Specialist who wanted to explore a more colorful and creative approach to the numbers she’s usually immersed in.

I applied to the mentoring program as part of my Individual Development Plan and ProjectMe which is to learn basic graphic designing through Canva.

Mentored by Erika Tan from CHR’s Optimization team, Meccah was able to improve her skills in creating visual materials that made tax information more engaging and easier to understand for her colleagues. As she became more in tune with her creative inner child, she was able to bring to life her team’s concept for the Tax Tool Box through the design of the soon-to-launch Google-based microsite, which is part of her team’s 2021 goals to provide more accessible services to A-People.

Meccah shares that a significant part of her journey was receiving feedback from her mentor which gave her the courage to keep exploring and learning. So, she did, and what a world it was that opened up to her!

Be open to each other. Don’t be shy to share ideas. Don’t be afraid to receive feedback.

If you are looking for a sign to tap into the #StudentAlways mindset, this is it.
