Finance Secretary Commends AEV Boardmember Romy Bernardo’s Contributions

Before vacating his post as head of the Department of Finance, Secretary Carlos ‘Sonny’ Dominguez sent a thank you note to AEV Boardmember Romy Bernardo. The secretary cited Mr. Bernardo’s generosity in contributing to the efforts toward “cornerstone” decisions towards much-needed reforms.

This letter speaks well of Romy as well as of the sender.

Every tax reform effort is a herculean effort, and the Finance Secretary needs all the help he can get from all sectors.  Romy has a long and distinguished career in government, especially the Department of Finance where he last served as undersecretary for the international finance group. He retired and has been in the private sector since.

It is this combination of an excellent understanding of both public and private sectors that has given him a rich understanding needed for helping push tax reform through Congress. Incidentally, he has actively participated in every major tax reform effort since 1986 within or outside of government.

Sec. Sonny has acknowledged the contributions of individuals like Romy and has written to all of them who have contributed significantly. Openness, success, and gratitude all go hand in hand.

Raphael ‘Popo’ Lotilla, Member, AboitizPower Board of Directors
