Typhoon-Affected Cebu Families Are Finally Rebuilding Homes

Through the support of the Aboitiz Foundation, displaced Liloan residents like Adela Gales are rebuilding their homes for a fresh start.

Nearly a year after Typhoon Tino, Aboitiz Foundation continues to support affected communities in Cebu by helping families rebuild their homes as part of a longer-term recovery effort, reaching a total of 520 families assisted through its Home Recovery Program.

The Foundation, in partnership with TotalEnergies, provided housing assistance to 10 more families in Liloan, with each receiving cement and other construction materials as well as cash support for labor costs.

“Our partnership with TotalEnergies demonstrates how collaboration extends impact in meaningful ways,” said Ginggay Hontiveros Malvar, President of Aboitiz Foundation. “Every home we build is a cornerstone of recovery that extends far beyond a single roof. By sheltering one family, we trigger a multiplier effect; imagine each household supports four to six people, every project helps hundreds of individuals rebuild their lives and move forward as a stronger, more resilient community.”

In the wake of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake and Typhoon Tino, Aboitiz Foundation has enabled hundreds of families to build safer, more resilient homes.

Aboitiz Foundation’s commitment to Cebu endures, anchored in its deep connection to the province. Following last year’s twin disasters, it mobilized its business units through One Aboitiz not only for immediate response, but to support the longer journey of recovery and rebuilding across communities.

For TotalEnergies, the partnership with Aboitiz Foundation aligns with its broader commitment to community engagement.

“We want to be a good neighbor, being able to help is important to our employees,” said Titos Castro, TotalEnergies Global Services Philippines Managing Director and Country Chair. “Working with Aboitiz Foundation allows us to contribute in a meaningful way while opening opportunities to do more.”

As Cebu continues its journey toward full recovery, Aboitiz Foundation remains a committed partner in empowering communities to grow and rebuild with resilience.
