Hedcor has started the steps towards increasing the capacity of its Bineng run-of-river hydropower plants in La Trinidad. The company is now processing its Free and Prior Informed Consent with the National Commission on Indigenous People and various stakeholders.
Named as Bineng Combined Hydroelectric Power Project, the company will increase the current capacity of Bineng 1, Bineng 2 and Bineng 2b from 5.48 MW to 19 MW. The project is expected to generate an additional of 42.7 million kWh with a total combined generation output of 62 million kWh annually. It is expected to be online by 2018.
Bineng Hydros were constructed in 1991. These are the first plants constructed by Hedcor in Benguet. They harness the water of Balili River, which flows northward from Baguio City to La Trinidad. Barangay Bineng and the Municipality of La Trinidad are long-time corporate social responsibility partners of Hedcor.
