In December 2016, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), with the help from its sponsors, donors and volunteers, distributed gifts to children from select places in Cebu as part of its Christmas Shoebox Campaign.
The campaign brought smiles to the faces of 788 children. Donors gave the kids shoeboxes that were filled with educational supplies and a few other goodies.
The recipients were street children and kids of drug surrenderers in Barangay Subangdako, Mandaue City; children from Barangays Duljo Fatima, Apas and Parian in Cebu City; Barangay Malapoc in Danao City; and the children of Batang Pinangga Foundation.
The Parian kids, who were neighbors of RAFI, were also given a free tour of the newly reopened Casa Gorordo Museum.
Campaign sponsors included the Rotary Club of Cebu and Froebel School for Early Literacy, which donated 200 shoebox gifts; and Mr. Gordon Allan Joseph and Philinsure, who gave 240 shoebox gifts.
Together with the Young Minds Academy alumni, Club Mega members from different Cebu schools, University of San Jose Recoletos Supreme Student Council officers, and individual volunteers, RAFI team members wrapped the shoeboxes and joined the gift distribution.
