SNAP-Magat, NIA take step to become #WeatherWiser

WeatherPhilippines continues to strengthen its advocacy of creating a #WeatherWiser nation through its flagship training activity – Weather 101 and Tropical Cyclone 101.

On March 14, the SN Aboitiz Power-Magat Inc. (SNAP-Magat) staff and the National Irrigation Administration-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS) officers participated in the training conducted by WeatherPhilippines Foundation. The whole-day training was conducted at Charina’s Suite Hotel, Santiago City and was led by Sustainability Manager Kaye Rosario, Automated Weather Station (AWS) Operations and Maintenance Manager Alvin Tobias, and Senior Typhoon Specialist David Michael Padua.

Attended by 30 participants, the training aimed to provide knowledge about technical know-how, operation and maintenance of an AWS and a walkthrough of the WeatherPhilippines website and mobile application.

The afternoon sessions familiarized the participants with technical weather terminologies, causes and effects of all weather disturbances, and basics of Philippine tropical cyclones. For all the trainings it provides, WeatherPhilippines aims to develop among its stakeholders a more systematic decision-making process with the use of weather knowledge and information.

The back-to-back AWS technical training and Weather and Tropical 101 trainings were all conducted as an extension of the existing partnership between WeatherPhilippines, SNAP-Magat and NIA-MARIIS. SNAP-Magat is one of WeatherPhilippines’ gold sponsors that donated 25 AWS units, 17 of which will be deployed in different NIA-MARIIS sites.

SNAP-Magat and NIA-MARIIS, together with WeatherPhilippines, strengthen partnerships during the ceremonial turnover of the Automated Weather Station (AWS) units to NIA-MARIIS.
