Aboitiz takes pride in its continuous pursuit of innovation. From processes to systems and even in daily tasks, any type of innovation- big or small, is welcomed in the organization. As one of the core values that has brought Aboitiz to where it is today, the Learning and Development team ensures the value of innovation is consistently being lived out by giving its team members the opportunity to widen their knowledge and broaden their perspectives for innovation initiatives to come about. The #StudentAlways mindset that the group has instilled has been proven over time helpful as team leaders and team members adapt to the fast-changing environment, especially in the pandemic, through education, exposure, and experience.
The Aboitiz Academy provides core courses essential to an A-Person’s growth, such as learning the company culture and what it takes to live The Aboitiz Way, to technical and soft skills to strengthen team members’ leadership and functional competencies for them to be the best at their role. Aboitiz also provides access to external learning resources such as Gartner, a widely known research firm that gives information, materials, and tools for specific functions in the business. This year, joining the digital library for learning resources is LinkedIn Learning, a digital platform by LinkedIn that offers video courses taught by industry experts with up-to-date content and is accessible 24/7. With more than 20,000 courses available, LinkedIn Learning offers courses in three categories: Technology, Creative, and Business.
Learning is important because it allows me to validate what I know and expand to areas that are still unfamiliar to me or where I need mastery. I want to learn in a more relaxed environment, an environment where I have more control of my time.

LinkedIn Learning was introduced to the Aboitiz Equity Ventures in 2020 where a select few were given access to the platform to test its usage among team leaders and team members. Only after a few short months, the platform has been deemed effective for digital learning as the Aboitiz Group has the highest LinkedIn Learning user activation rate in the Philippines as of the end of 2020. To date, 79% of the team leaders and team members in Aboitiz Equity Ventures have actively utilized LinkedIn Learning since its official launch in January 2021.

To be more effective with the little time that we have, determining our learning style can help. There are LinkedIn Learning courses which require less visual attention than others, these can be listened to in our mobile app which can be set to podcast or audio-only… Schedule time, however little each day, for learning and stick to it!

The platform is more than just a tool for learning. It is also used to engage team members by integrating courses and goals in engagement activities to foster healthy and friendly competition to positively influence their fellow A-People in doing the same. Last Valentine’s celebration, AEV focused on three (3) main areas; self-love, love for the community, and love for learning, where love for learning was facilitated through the platform. Another program called #BetterUs, a health and wellness campaign will be integrating LinkedIn Learning to encourage learning as part of one’s intellectual health. An A-Learners’ Digest is released bi-monthly to update users of the new and relevant courses for team leaders and team members. More than just learning technical skills, LinkedIn Learning also offers courses on emotional intelligence, mental health, mindfulness, and time management– skills that are helpful especially in the time of corona.
The introduction of LinkedIn Learning to AEV was timely as the world was hit by a global pandemic, which limited in-person workshops and increased the demand for digital learning. The A-People utilized LinkedIn Learning to their advantage, displaying their resiliency, agility, and flexibility in the new normal. Not even a pandemic can stop the A-People from learning continuously and pursuing their promise to advance business and communities, which is what makes an individual uniquely an A-Person.
