Operational Excellence. This is what UBX set out to achieve at the start of 2025. This challenge required reviewing every existing system, auditing all assets, and finding more efficient ways to run the business. The result? A leaner, more efficient organization that generated monthly savings of over Php 2M.
Resource Maximization
The team began by analyzing the monthly Amazon Web Services (AWS) costs, which provided the baseline for a full-scale strategic cleanup. They focused on eliminating waste and maximizing value by re-evaluating project capacity needs versus what they were built for, and matched plans to current usage requirements. Next, they backed up and removed inactive assets that were consuming valuable space, and downgraded or canceled unnecessary cloud subscriptions.
This approach was impactful, with monthly cloud costs dropping from approximately Php 3.2M in January to just over Php 1M today, a reduction of nearly 70%. This effort has generated almost Php 16M in total savings, proving that strategic technology management drives tangible business outcomes.
Strategic Migration and Future-Ready Operations
Capping off the streamlining effort, UBX migrated its technology infrastructure from AWS to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to consolidate all functions under a single provider.
This focus on efficiency now shapes its future operations. UBX has since developed a playbook for building new projects with more precise cost projections from inception.
Furthermore, the team championed regular audits to ensure projects remain aligned with current needs, preventing systems built for high-volume peak demand from becoming unnecessary cost centers when activity fluctuates.
Ultimately, this shift, anchored by the migration to GCP and the commitment to simplifying infrastructure, marks a significant step toward permanent operational maturity. By instituting a playbook and championing regular audits, UBX is institutionalizing the lessons learned, ensuring projects are always scaled correctly and costs remain optimized.
Combining disciplined technology management with a clear, forward-looking strategy is not just about achieving one-time savings. It’s about building an agile, cost-effective, and sustainable organization.
