CitySavings supports public school teachers hit by typhoon

When Typhoon Tisoy hit the provinces of Isabela, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro in late 2019, over 1,400 teachers and more than 1,200 learners from 76 public schools were affected.

Classrooms and other educational facilities were damaged as some schools suffered from flooding. Educational materials were washed away and damaged, according to Angeles Casabuena, Jr., MIMAROPA Project Development Officer II, and DRRM Coordinator.

In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), City Savings Bank (CitySavings) provided over 1,280 learning kits, more than 1,400 teaching kits and various cleaning materials as part of its disaster rehabilitation initiative for the affected schools in the area.

“This project is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to provide assistance and alleviate the education needs of our learners and teachers,” said Marson Senica, CitySavings Regional Business Head for Northern Luzon.

“Maraming salamat po sa mga school supplies na binigay nyo sa amin [mga mag-aaral]. Sobrang makakatulong po ito sa pag-aaral namin maging sa aming magulang para hindi na bumili ulit (Thank you for the school supplies you have provided to us. This will be of great help for our studies and to our parents so they don’t have to buy it anymore)”, shared Lucienne Rosie Yveinre L. Landicho, Grade 6 student of Sablayan Central School in Occidental Mindoro.

“As a notable partner of DepEd, CitySavings has demonstrated a strong manifestation of its social responsibility. The bank has a strong commitment to reaching out urgently to answer the needs of schools, teachers and students, and the community as well. We are grateful to CitySavings for this act of kindness” added Imelda Ballesteros, Head Teacher – III and Brigada Eskwela Coordinator of Villapag-asa National High School in Oriental Mindoro.

CitySavings continues to drive change for a better world through relevant CSR initiatives and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to environmental disasters specifically on recovery of DepEd communities.
