Plowing land, planting crops, raising livestock, and harvesting produce are essential life competencies that teach young children about long-term self-sufficiency. Lianwan Primary School in Zhuhai City, China harnesses these skills for its students by integrating agricultural education into its curriculum and a hands-on farm on its grounds. Leveraging its expertise in animal feed production, Gold Coin stepped in through its Project EduCare initaitive to provide the school with a steady animal feed supply and volunteers for farm upkeep.
Project EduCare, led by Aboitiz Foods through Gold Coin China, combines “edu” (education) and “care” (well-being and support) to promote learning while nurturing the holistic needs of individuals and communities. In its second year of partnership, Aboitiz Foods is helping sustain Lianwan farming activities by donating a one-year supply of animal feed (40 bags) for poultry and fish. Gold Coin team members also volunteered to help with labor needs.
At the backyard farm, students grow produce and raise animals. This holistic approach develops their discipline and responsibility, builds stamina, and deepens their appreciation of where food comes from. Meanwhile, expanding nutritional knowledge cultivates their interest in how food production contributes to our ecosystem and the advancement of society.
On July 4, 2025, Lianwan Primary School held a Harvest Festival to celebrate the students’ achievements in academics and farming. Gold Coin Zhuhai team members joined the festivities and, during the event, turned over 20 pick-up vouchers valued at approximately CNY4,400. With these vouchers, the school can collect animal feed from the Gold Coin China mill based on actual usage, ensuring freshness and preventing waste.
