Volunteers from Visayan Electric’s Kaibigan Batches 1 and 10 dedicated a recent weekend to environmental and community service by participating in separate initiatives focused on bamboo planting and animal welfare.

On September 20, in celebration of World Bamboo Day, Kaibigan Batch 1 joined a bamboo planting initiative led by the Aboitiz Foundation as part of its  CarbonPh Program. The volunteers helped plant over 700 bamboo seedlings across several mountain barangays in Cebu City, including Buot-Taup, Bonbon, Sinsin, Sudlon 2, Manipis, and Camp 4. To support the effort, Visayan Electric also donated 50 sacks of coco peat, a natural fertilizer that promotes bamboo growth.

The following day, September 21, Kaibigan Batch 10 launched its “Paws for a Cause” project in partnership with the VECO Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (VEMCO) and the Cebu City Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF).

As part of the project, volunteers assisted in a spay and neuter drive conducted by the DVMF in Banilad, Cebu City, where 35 pets were treated. The batch also donated essential pet supplies—including food, toys, bathing materials, medicines, and vitamins—to support the DVMF’s animal welfare efforts.

Together, these initiatives highlight Visayan Electric’s commitment to go beyond providing power by actively empowering the communities it serves and protecting the well-being of its residents and animals alike.
