First in the Philippines: Aboitiz Foods and AWS Outposts

AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that extends AWS cloud infrastructure, services, and tools to on-premises facilities. This allows businesses to run applications requiring ultra-low latency, local data processing, and continuous operations while maintaining a seamless connection to the broader AWS environment.

Aboitiz Foods has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate its digital transformation, marking the first deployment of AWS Outposts in the Philippines. Pilmico, its food and agribusiness subsidiary in the Philippines, served as the pilot company with the rollout beginning at its Capas, Tarlac facility. This milestone strengthens Aboitiz Foods’ efforts to build a more resilient, secure, and innovative food value chain by leveraging world-class technology.

Pilmico operates a vast network of facilities across the Philippines, serving both domestic and international markets. Many of these production sites are in geographically dispersed areas with limited internet connectivity, creating challenges for real-time operations, data security, and compliance with food safety standards.

“AWS Outposts provides us with a consistent, cloud-native platform that maintains the local processing capabilities we need while significantly simplifying our IT operations,” said Gary Eugenio, Assistant Vice President for IT Infrastructure at Aboitiz Foods. “This allows our team to focus on strategic initiatives that directly benefit our customers and enhance our brand promise.”

Gary Eugenio, Assistant Vice President for IT Infrastructure at Aboitiz Foods, shared insights on AWS Outpost implementation and enterprise adoption at Amazon’s AWS Cloud Day. This learning event brought together technical experts, business leaders, and developers to learn about the latest cloud computing innovations and connect with the AWS community.

For Aboitiz Foods, the solution was critical to ensuring ultra-low latency, uninterrupted operations, and robust data security — essential safeguards for food safety and customer commitments.

These capabilities are central to Aboitiz Foods’ long-term strategy, enabling AI-driven quality control, predictive maintenance, and IoT-powered production insights that support smarter decision-making and operational resilience. Following the success of the Capas pilot, Aboitiz Foods plans to roll out AWS Outposts across its other sites in the Philippines, with plans to extend this strategy to its international operations.

The partnership with AWS is aligned with the Aboitiz Group’s Great Transformation, a strategic journey to become the Philippines’ first Techglomerate. For Aboitiz Foods, this means building a future-ready food value chain powered by data, technology, and innovation—ensuring that every step, from mill to meal, delivers on its brand promise: “Together, we nourish the future.”
