The Great Transformation

Growth & Grit: The Transformation of Luciano Menchavez Jr.

A career built one task at a time can turn into a lifetime of purpose.

When Luciano Menchavez Jr. first stepped onto an Aboitiz Construction project site in 1989, he was a young rigger full of questions and curiosity.

“I just wanted to learn, to do my job well,” he recalls.

His first assignment at a manufacturing project in Cagayan de Oro City taught him an early lesson that stayed with him: responsibility starts with owning every task, no matter how small.

By 1991, his work took him to a hydro power project in Baguio City, where he sharpened his technical skills as a fitter erector. Later, in 1998, during a geothermal plant project in Kidapawan, he realized the importance of integrity by doing the right thing even when no one is watching.

Growth for Luciano was never just about doing the work—it was about learning to lead.

In 2000, he stepped into his first leadership role as Acting Leadman for a thermal plant interconnection project in Kananga, Leyte. It was a turning point: leadership meant speaking up, making decisions, and guiding others.

By 2004, as Piping Leadman in Valencia City, Bukidnon, he embraced innovation. He learned to propose solutions, improve workflows, and find safer, smarter ways to work. Confidence grew alongside his ability to lead and inspire his team.

The defining chapter of Luciano’s career began in 2012, when he joined the maintenance services project for a mining processing plant in Claver, Surigao del Norte. Today, as Mechanical Supervisor, he leads teams across diverse projects.

“Collaboration brings out the best in people,” he says. “Leading isn’t just managing operations—it’s helping others grow the way I did.”

Working with diverse teams taught him patience, empathy, and the power of teamwork. Seeing others succeed, he realized, is one of the most rewarding parts of leadership.

Looking back to his 36 years in Aboitiz Construction, Luciano describes his transformation as gradual but meaningful. Each project, each challenge, and each role built not just his skills, but his character and passion.

As Aboitiz Construction celebrates its 50th year, Luciano’s story mirrors the company’s evolution: growth built on the dedication of Kaubans who evolve alongside it.

In his own words, Luciano sums it up: “Each construction project and maintenance operation built not just structures, but also my character as a Kauban.”

It is a reminder that true transformation is as much about people as it is about projects—and that every step, every lesson, and every challenge contributes to a journey worth celebrating.
