A massive fire swept through Barangay 5 Gustilo Street in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental recently, destroying 85 houses, partially damaging two others, and leaving 106 families homeless. The Bureau of Fire Protection reports that the blaze consumed a 3,000-square meter area and displaced hundreds of residents who are now taking shelter at the covered court of Barangay 4.
The immediate challenge for all those affected, according to the City Social Welfare and Development Office, is rebuilding their homes in the aftermath of the devastating fire.

Upon learning of their plight, Aboitiz Solar Power (ASPI) together with its general contractor Sumec Engineering and subcontractors RBG, Xinchuan, and Kenneth Construction, stepped in to assist 80 families displaced by the fire. The companies donated 200 crate plyboards made from recycled wood pallets, a sustainable resource repurposed from materials originally used to deliver solar modules at ASPI’s project sites.
“In times of crisis, the strength of community shines brightest. It is our duty to unite, support our neighbors, and help them rebuild their lives,” Rolando Pacquiao, President and COO of Hedcor, said.
These construction materials will play a crucial role in providing immediate shelter and structural support for temporary housing as families work toward restoring their homes and community.
