Vita Tropic Ice Company, Inc., an ice manufacturing company located in Malabon City, has recently switched to Advent Energy Inc., a retail business unit of AboitizPower, upon successful completion of the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) switching process.

Vita Tropic is AboitizPower’s first GEOP customer and the partnership commenced on March 26, 2022.

GEOP, a salient point of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, is a voluntary policy mechanism that provides electricity end-users with an average peak demand of at least 100 kW for the past 12 months, the option to switch to renewable energy sources and choose their own renewable energy supplier.

“As responsible citizens, we must ensure that in everything that we do, we do it with utmost regard to what effects it has on our environment, which is why we are very proud to be one of the first GEOP customers in the country today. We’re happy to be partners with AboitizPower, a leader in the Philippine power industry,” said David Co, Vita Tropic Ice Company Inc. head of business development.

Through concrete solutions that use the best practices, he added that “our partnership built on trust and shared values give us the power to create meaningful impacts to build a better world for a cleaner and more sustainable future.”

AboitizPower has already received GEOP permits from the Department of Energy (DOE) for its retail companies, namely Advent Energy Inc., Aboitiz Energy Solutions Inc. (AESI), and Prism Energy Inc.

With the DOE-issued permit, these entities are authorized to enter into a supply contract with qualified GEOP customers.

“We at AboitizPower fully support GEOP as we believe it’s a key driver of renewable energy growth in the Philippines. This gives more customers the option and opportunity to join the movement towards a sustainable energy transition,” said AboitizPower Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations Juan Alejandro Aboitiz.

He added that they have been looking forward to the implementation of GEOP and now that it is finally happening, they are confident they  have the ability and expertise to serve the needs of the market.
