Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. (Davao Light) is set to build its 29th distribution substation in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, to deliver reliable power and fuel the area’s growing economic activity, particularly serving the Anflo Industrial Estate (AIE).
The 69/13.8 kilovolt (kV) substation broke ground on November 20 at the AIE in Brgy. San Pedro, Panabo. With a total capacity of 43 megavolt-amperes (MVA), the substation will cater to the power needs of the 63-hectare agro-industrial park – a Special Economic Zone, and its surrounding areas. It will also support the city’s future growth in electricity demand.
A substation is a vital component of a power distribution network that transforms and regulates high-voltage electricity into a suitable level, making it stable and safe for distribution to end-users.
Set to be operational in June 2026, the San Pedro Substation will have an initial capacity of 10MVA, while the remaining 33MVA capacity will be completed in 2027. It will be a digital substation equipped with automated monitoring and control systems, enabling it to capture and transmit real-time data. This will allow Davao Light engineers to identify and troubleshoot issues quickly and efficiently.
Moreover, it will be a green facility that employs a rainwater harvesting system for non-potable use and harnesses solar power for operations.
“Davao Light remains a steadfast partner in the growth and development of the communities we serve. We are here to provide reliable, sustainable, and efficient electricity to Panabo City and the Anflo Industrial Estate with the hope of further enhancing competitiveness to serve the country”, said Davao Light President and COO Enriczar T. Tia.
Now in its 79th year of empowering the evolution of its communities, Davao Light provides solutions that pave the way for the development of its franchise area, covering the cities of Davao, Panabo, and the municipalities of Carmen, Dujali, and Sto. Tomas. Soon, the AboitizPower subsidiary will expand its services to the entire provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro.
